FLASHING LED LIGHTING; 5 TIPS THAT STOP THE BLINKING

Flashing LED Lighting

If you are just taking a nice shower, the lighting suddenly starts to flash. You get out of the shower tray completely soaked, resulting in a soaking wet floor. Can you also mop after showering? You hopelessly start tapping the LED lighting, but without consequence. Recognizable? Then you are not the only one. Flashing LED lighting is more common than you think. Fortunately, in many cases, this problem can be solved without too much trouble. We list a number of causes and give you the right solution.
NOT ALL-LED LIGHTING IS DIMMABLE
Did you know, for example, that not all LED lighting is dimmable? When you try to dim non-dimmable LED lighting, the LED lights do not get enough power, causing them to blink. To prevent this problem, it is best to purchase new - dimmable - LED lighting, or you can choose to replace the dimmer with a normal switch. In our webshop, you will find dimmable LED lighting in the category dimmable LED spots.
FLASHING LED LIGHTING THROUGH A DIMMER FOR HALOGEN OR INCANDESCENT LAMPS
Have you recently switched from halogen or incandescent lamps to LED lighting? Did you then also consider replacing the dimmer? The minimum power of halogen or incandescent lamp dimmers is often too high for the total power of the LED lamp. This provides LED lighting when dimming the lamps. The lamp is then looking for sufficient power to burn. You can easily replace the dimmer for an LED dimmer. In the dimmers section, you will find dimmers that are suitable for LED lighting.
THE WRONG TYPE OF LED DIMMER
Did you replace the old dimmer, but still suffer from flashing LED lighting? Then you may have purchased the wrong type of dimmer. There are two types: (1) a phase cut-off dimmer and (2) a phase cut-off dimmer. If you use the first type for the second type of lamp or vice versa, then it can happen that your LED lighting will blink. It is often difficult to find on the packaging which dimmer you need. The terms for the required dimmer are often given in English:
  • Phase entry: Leading-edge or RL
  • Phase cut-off: Trailing edge or RC
So always check whether the dimmer and the lighting are the same types.
THE WRONG DRIVER
When switching from halogen to LED lighting, have you thought about replacing the driver or the transformer? This device ensures that the mains current is converted into the correct wattage for the lamp. Because halogen lighting uses more power than an LED, a halogen drive provides a larger power supply than the LED lights can handle. Here too, the lamps can start to blink, the lighting can become overloaded and eventually break. Therefore, replace your driver with a driver that is suitable for LED obligation. You will find an overview of these drivers in the LED drivers section.
BROKEN DRIVER
Is the LED lighting from one day to the next blinking? Then it may just be that the driver is broken. This is often caused by overheating because the driver is not suitable or there is insufficient ventilation. When the driver is separate from the LED lamp, you only need to replace the driver. Is the driver in the lamp? Then you have to replace the entire lamp. After replacing, make sure that the temperature does not exceed 50 degrees. This prevents the repetition of the same problem.
HEAVY DEVICES IN THE SAME GROUP AS THE LED LIGHTING
Does the LED lighting not flash constantly, but is there fluctuation? Find out when the blinking occurs. Is it possible that the LED lighting starts to flash when a heavier appliance, such as the refrigerator or the dishwasher, turns on? This is because LED lighting is very sensitive to current impulses from outside and can start to blink in situations like this. The solution to this problem is slightly more difficult, but a very effective solution is to connect the heavier devices to another group. You can, of course, test this by temporarily using an extension cord and checking whether the blinking has decreased afterward.
